I don't know what eastern religions you are talking about...Confucianism has a similar style virtue ethic, but there are only 4 "character qualities" that he promotes...

*His teachings are no different from Eastern Religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism.

The "Shepherding Movement" was something that emerged around the end of the 1960's and was through the leadership of 5 or 6 national "elders." Derek Prince and Bob Mumford among them. Heavy emphasis on submission to authority.
Women were treated like worms. Many of the same themes that I have read on this web site. Very legalistic. You couldn't think for yourself. Point being that this rears it's head in every generation it seems. To my new friends on this web site - you will survive this! Value the precious life God has given you and know that God has given you your brain and the ability to think for yourself for a reason. Blessings.

Shepherding Movement? Not sure I'm familiar with that one...

I found your site through a news article related to the Colorado shootings. I was deeply touched to read your stories. Some things never change. I attended Gothard's seminars 30 years ago and went to a very authoritative church in the "Shepherding Movement." It was incredibly damaging to my spiritual life but my faith in Jesus is intact. to this day.
I want to encourage you and will be praying for us all. This is now an issue that is "out of the box" and needs discussion in our society. You will help a lot of people just by sharing your own journey and being real. Bless you!!

I too welcome the newbies, I was worried that people may not feel as free to write what's on their heart for fear of those who may "scrutinize". We've all been judged enough we came here to find understanding... I pray that we can still find that in the months to come.

I'm a little shocked that more people didn't know about "x-tian" sites, or Gothard, or that former fundies create places to discuss and support each other... but I welcome the newbies (do people still use that word?) Just be ready for pro-Gothard or others to scrutinize everything.

I know we wanted the activity for this site back again but this is just nuts - I miss how it used to be...

as I read some of the postings it disturbs me that this org of mr Gothards has duped so many parents. I am a Christian man and a father of 6 children and I would never expose them to the insanity of this man.
